FORMER TITLES

The four Regiments which now make up the Royal Dragoon Guards have been
known by a number of different titles, as listed below:

4th ROYAL IRISH DRAGOON GUARDS (From 1685 to 1922)

THE INNISKILLINGS (6TH DRAGOONS) (From 1689 to 1922)

THE 4th/7th ROYAL DRAGOON GUARDS

In 1922, the 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards amalgamated with the 7th Dragoon Guards (Princess Royal's) to become the
4th/7th Dragoon Guards. In 1936 following the granting of the distinction
'Royal', the Regiment became the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards
THE 5th ROYAL INNISKILLING DRAGOON GUARDS

In 1922, the 5th Dragoon Guards (Princess Charlotte of Wales’s) and the Inniskilling (6th Dragoons) amalgamated to form the 5th/6th Dragoons. In 1927 the title changed to the 5th Inniskilling Dragoon Guards and in 1935, following the granting of the distinction 'Royal', the Regiment became the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards.
