All Saints Church, Pavement, York

All Saints Church, Pavement, is the Regimental Church of The Royal Dragoon Guards. Their connection with York can be traced to the early 1700s, during which period, various of their antecedents began to be stationed in the city. The Freedom of the City of York was presented to The Royal Dragoon Guards on the 24th April 1999. The Regiment exercised the Freedom of the City on the 16 March 2002, and, following the parade, a Regimental window was dedicated in the church. This can be seen on the left-hand side of the nave.

In the North Aisle there is a memorial to the Polety brothers, of the 7th Dragoon Guards, who died in 1829 and 1838. The 7th Dragoon Guards was stationed in York in 1829 and in February of that year, they helped to fight the fire in York Minster with the Regimental fire fighting appliance. Troop Sergeant Major John Polety died a week after fighting the fire.
